Case studies Multinational rail services provider Providing representation on the application of EU Treaties, regulatory systems and international/crossborder EU agreements regarding the use of the Channel Tunnel and the application of EU Directives. We have advised the client on engagement with the European Commission regarding potential investigations. Transport for Wales Advising on the merger control and procurement aspects of the Wales and Borders rail franchise. This required the transfer of facilitation of powers to Welsh Ministers and TfW’s solution had to utilise the benefits of a vertically-integrated rail system while ensuring compliance with EU Directives and UK competition law. Advent International Advising on the proposed acquisition of Cobham plc for £4bn. This transaction was notified to the European Commission. The Secretary of State issued a European Intervention Notice. We are also advising on the public interest aspects of the transaction. UK Research and Innovation Advising on the implementation of HMG’s Brexit research guarantee and the establishment of UK grant funding agreements to replace the EU Horizon 2020 scheme. National Highways Advising on numerous NSIPs, including planning advice on the former proposals for the Heathrow expansion DCO process, the new A30 dual carriageway between Carslake and Carland Cross and the A417 proposals. Department for Transport Advising DfT as decision maker on numerous DCOs and Transport and Works Act Orders and related issues including EIA and HRA. Environment Agency and Canal and River Trust Advising on a £20m scheme for installing state-of-the-art fish passes at several weirs located along the River Severn, including advice on strategic planning, site acquisition, public rights of way and CPO powers. Torbay Council CPO advice for the redevelopment of the Crossways Shopping Centre, including dealing with the entire CPO process and related planning application.
